The post-humorous notes of the Pickwickian Club. Edited by “Bos”. Illustrated with ... engravings
An 1837 London imitation of Dickens's Pickwick Papers, issued in cheap parts under the pseudonym "Bos" and aimed at readers who wanted the serial at a lower price. The 116 small wood engravings, printed directly into the text columns, show top-hatted men in breeches and tailcoats brawling, gesturing and fainting in plain interiors, drawn with coarse hatching and heavy cast shadows useful as comic figure vignettes.
