Bataille de terre et de mer jusques et y compris la bataille de l'Alma, etc
A French treatise on land and sea battles up to the Alma, written by Admiral Louis Édouard Bouët-Willaumez and published in 1855 for naval officers and students of tactics. The wood-engraved figures are numbered battle diagrams in which fleets and regiments appear as rows of tiny ship glyphs and dashes, tied together by dotted course lines, compass roses and letter keys, with occasional small profiles of steam frigates under sail; useful for schematic marks, arrow-and-axis layouts, and ship silhouettes at type size.
