The Naval Monument, containing official and other accounts of all the battles fought between the navies of the United States and Great Britain during the late war; and an account of the war with Algiers. With twenty-five engravings, to which is annexed a naval register of the United States ... brought down to ... 1836
A compilation of official dispatches and narratives of the naval engagements of the War of 1812 and the Algerine war, assembled by Boston engraver Abel Bowen and reissued by Nafis & Cornish in 1836 for American readers, with an appended naval register. The twenty-five wood engravings are captioned broadside views of paired frigates and brigs in action, each set low on a hatched sea with billowing gunsmoke, rigging drawn in fine line and framed by a ruled border, useful for ship silhouettes, cloud and smoke textures, and caption-plate layouts.
