Rowland Bradshaw, his Struggles and Adventures on the Way to Fame. By the author of “Raby Rattler” [i.e. Thomas Hall]. With twenty-eight illustrations on steel by S. P. Fletcher

BRADSHAW, Rowland. · 1848 · Sherwood, Gilbert & Piper · 28 pictures

A comic picaresque novel of 1848, written by Thomas Hall under the pen name used for "Raby Rattler" and issued in London by Sherwood, Gilbert & Piper for readers of serialised Victorian fiction. The twenty-eight steel engravings by S. P. Fletcher put small full-length figures in barred cells, papered parlours, attic rooms and roadside hedgerows, drawn in fine grey line with soft aquatint-like shading; useful for early-Victorian dress, top hats and tailcoats, furniture silhouettes and vignette compositions with pale open surrounds.
