A German study of the Inca empire, compiled by Reinhold Bernhard Brehm from early Spanish chronicles and published in 1885 for scholarly readers. Its plates here are horizontal engraved headpiece bands of Renaissance-revival grotesque ornament: symmetrical acanthus scrolls, urns, rosettes, winged figures, sphinxes and putti in white line on dense black, framed by dotted borders and corner finials.
