A two-volume military history by Wiley Britton, published by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1891, recounting Union and Confederate operations in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and the Indian Territory from official reports, for veterans and students of the war. The illustrations here are repeated printer's ornaments: symmetrical Renaissance-revival cartouches with winged putti, urns, dolphins, scrolling acanthus and pendant beads, usable as chapter tailpieces and dividers.
