Illustrations of the Passes of the Alps, by which Italy communicates with France, Switzerland, and Germany
A topographical plate book by the painter-engraver William Brockedon, surveying the carriage and mule routes linking Italy with France, Switzerland and Germany, issued in London by H. G. Bohn for travellers and armchair tourists. The 54 steel engravings are pale and finely ruled: shadowed rock walls against blank skies, roads cut along gorges, bridges, and tiny figures with pack animals giving scale.
