An anthology of poems and prose passages on historical events, arranged chronologically, edited by Rebecca Warren Brown and published by Frederick Warne in London and New York in 1888 for general and school readers. The plates are full-page wood-engraved scenes of battles, deaths and sea actions, printed sideways with captions in the margin, built from crowded figure groups, rearing horses, pikes and masts in dense grey hatching with strong dark-to-light massing.
