Inside Out Library

Our Earth and its Story: a popular treatise on physical geography. Edited by R. Brown. With ... coloured plates and maps, etc

BROWN, Robert - M.A., Ph.D · 1893 · 418 pictures

A three-volume popular physical geography for general British readers, edited by Robert Brown and published in London in 1893, explaining landforms, glaciers, volcanoes and oceans through hundreds of wood-engraved figures. The plates are tonal landscape engravings — iceberg-choked polar headlands, a steaming crater floor on Etna, hanging glaciers above New Zealand valleys, the terraced hillsides of Glen Roy — useful for skies, rock texture, and horizontal panoramic compositions.
