The History of Scotland, translated ... with notes, and a continuation to the present time. A new edition ... By James Aikman
A six-volume edition of George Buchanan's history of Scotland, translated and annotated by James Aikman with a continuation to his own day, issued by Blackie & Son in Glasgow in 1855 for general Victorian readers. The plates are tonal steel engravings: open-air Covenanter preaching, scaffold executions before town crowds, castles on sea cliffs, and lamplit interiors, useful for crowd groupings, historical costume, and skies built from fine ruled line.
