A Trip through the Caledonian Canal and tour in the Highlands. By “Bumps” ... Illustrated by “Chalk.”
A privately printed comic account of an 1861 steamer trip through the Caledonian Canal and a Highland tour, written under the pen name "Bumps" and drawn by "Chalk" for circulation among friends. The plates are loose pen sketches of crowded cabins, saloons and parlours, printed sideways with short captions such as "A Business Meeting" and "Unappreciated Talent", offering grouped Victorian figures, crinolines, top hats and vignette-edged compositions that fade into blank paper.
