The Poems, Letters, and Land of Robert Burns: illustrated by W. H. Bartlett, T. Allom, and other artists. With a new memoir of the poet, and notices, critical and biographical, of his works, by Allan Cunningham
An 1840 London edition of Robert Burns's poems and letters published by George Virtue, with a memoir and critical notices by Allan Cunningham and plates engraved after W. H. Bartlett, Thomas Allom, and others, aimed at Victorian readers touring Burns country in print. The 35 steel engravings are soft grey tonal landscapes and town views—lochs under moonlight, riverside houses, framing trees, hay carts in a market square—useful for atmospheric skies, water reflections, and small figure groups.
