The Poems, Letters, and Land of Robert Burns: illustrated by W. H. Bartlett, T. Allom, and other artists. With a new memoir of the poet, and notices, critical and biographical, of his works, by Allan Cunningham
An illustrated two-volume edition of Robert Burns's poems and letters issued by George Virtue in London in 1840, with a memoir and notes by Allan Cunningham and plates after W. H. Bartlett, Thomas Allom and others, aimed at middle-class Victorian subscribers. The steel engravings mix Scottish landscape views with candlelit cottage and tavern scenes of courting couples, drinkers and spinning women, useful for period costume, rustic interiors and figure groups set in soft tonal gradients.
