The Pictorial History of France and of the French People ... Enriched with ... designs by Jules David
A popular narrative history of France issued in London by W. S. Orr & Co. in 1843, written by George Moir Bussey and Thomas Gaspey for British general readers and illustrated throughout by the Paris draughtsman Jules David. The 175 wood engravings are loosely hatched crowd scenes — mounted nobles entering a town, armoured guards in plumed hats, councils around a table — with figures massed against sketchy architecture, useful for period costume, armour and grouped-figure silhouettes.
