The Cost of a Lie, etc
A three-volume sensation novel by Caroline Emily Cameron, issued in London by F. V. White & Co. in 1886 for the circulating-library readership. The plates are repeated typographic ornaments printed in thin grey-violet line: symmetrical chapter headpieces built from acanthus scrolls, an overflowing flower urn, a small grotesque face mask at the centre, and a variant with a footed cup and swan-necked stems \u2014 usable as rule-width dividers, masthead flourishes or centred tailpieces.
