The Cost of a Lie, etc
A three-decker sensation novel by Caroline Emily Cameron, issued in London by F. V. White & Co. in 1886 for the circulating-library readership. The plates are not scenes but printers' ornaments: symmetrical line-engraved head- and tailpieces built from scrolled cartouches, winged grotesques, dolphins, flower-filled urns and pendant husk swags, repeated across chapters and usable as rules, dividers and frame centres.
