Gertrude of Wyoming ... With thirty-five illustrations engraved by the Brothers Dalziel
An 1857 London gift edition of Thomas Campbell's 1809 narrative poem of colonial Pennsylvania, issued by G. Routledge & Co. for Victorian parlour readers, with thirty-five wood engravings cut by the Brothers Dalziel. The plates set figures in dense cross-hatched woodland: embracing couples, a torchlit crowd of armed settlers, a feather-cloaked youth leading a child, and circular vignettes of deer, dogs and undergrowth useful as spot ornaments and tonal foliage textures.
