Traits and Stories of the Irish Peasantry ... Fourth edition
A collection of Irish rural sketches and tales by William Carleton, issued in 1864 by the London publisher William Tegg as a fourth edition with wood-engraved illustrations after John Gilbert and William Harvey, aimed at general Victorian readers. The plates are dense cottage interiors under sloping thatch and rafters, with crowds of figures mid-gesture at tables, hearths and doorways, plus dogs, stools, dressers and scattered props useful for period interior staging and group-action poses.
