Traits and Stories of the Irish Peasantry ... Fourth edition
William Carleton's collected sketches of rural Irish life, issued in 1876 by William Tegg in London as a fourth edition for a general Victorian reading public. The plates are etchings and wood engravings of cottage interiors, roadside crowds, wakes and market scenes, with figures in shawls, frieze coats and tall hats, useful for crowd groupings, hearth-side arrangements and loose crosshatched tonal backgrounds.
