ALLOM, Thomas., Bartlett, W. H. (William Henry), Purser, William., CARNE, John - Traveller · 1853 · Peter Jackson · 122 pictures

A topographical travel work issued by Peter Jackson in London in 1853, pairing steel-engraved views drawn from nature by W. H. Bartlett, Thomas Allom and William Purser with descriptive letterpress by the traveller John Carne, aimed at British readers buying the Near East in parts. The 122 plates are wide horizontal landscapes with pale graded skies and distant mountain ranges, flat-roofed towns, ruined columns and cypress clumps, and small foregrounds of camels, horsemen and seated figures useful as fine-line scenery, silhouetted hill profiles and cut-out travellers.
