The History of Cedar County, Iowa ... Illustrated
A subscription county history of Cedar County, Iowa, issued by the Western Historical Company in 1878 for local subscribers whose portraits and farms paid for the volume. The plates are stipple-and-lithographic bust portraits of bearded settlers and officials, each with an engraved facsimile signature, plus a few vignettes of pioneers in hats and heavy coats set into the text; useful for period faces, whiskers, and handwritten name scripts.
