Bertha. [A novel

CHEAL, Elizabeth. · 1886 · J. Blackwood & Co. · 7 pictures

A Victorian novel by Elizabeth Cheal, published in London by J. Blackwood & Co. in 1886 for the circulating-library readership. Its illustrations are small engraved vignettes, repeated through the volume, showing crossed harvest implements — sickles, rakes, hayforks, ropes — bound with wheat ears and flowers in tight diagonal bundles, drawn in even hatched line; useful as tailpieces, chapter ornaments, or agricultural emblems.
