A scholarly edition of sixteenth-century Chenonceau estate papers concerning Diane de Poitiers and the royal council under François I and Henri II, edited with an introduction by the abbé Casimir Chevalier and published in France in 1866 for historians and antiquarians. The plates are line-engraved headpieces and tailpieces in a Renaissance revival manner: symmetrical strapwork panels, scrolling stems with small rosettes, bearded masks and winged caryatid figures, all printed as fine outline on blank ground and easy to lift as rules, dividers and chapter ornaments.
