A documentary edition of the Chenonceau château archives, transcribing charters and accounts from the reigns of Louis XII, François Ier and Henri II, edited with an introduction by the abbé Casimir Chevalier and printed in France in 1864 for antiquarians and local historians. The plates are Renaissance-revival engraved headpieces and tailpieces: strapwork cartouches, putti flanking cipher monograms, scrolling foliage and grotesque birds, usable as rules, dividers and framing devices.
