Luke Wesley Church's novel From the Plough to the Pulpit, viâ Cambridge, issued by Tinsley Bros. in London in 1874 for the circulating-library readership. The plates here are small printer's ornaments rather than scenes: line-engraved sprigs of holly, thistle, buttercup and rose arranged as symmetrical tailpieces, plus a horizontal scrollwork band with a central heart-and-crown motif, usable as chapter dividers, spot decorations, or repeat-pattern units.
