The Captain of the “Mary Rose.” A tale of to-morrow ... Illustrated, etc
A speculative future-war naval novel by the British naval writer William Laird Clowes, published in London by the Tower Publishing Co. in 1892 for readers following the period's ironclad and torpedo-boat debates, with plates signed by Fred T. Jane. The illustrations are sparse pen-and-ink seascapes in which low warship silhouettes, funnel smoke and shellbursts sit against blank sky and scribbled swell, useful for open-field compositions, ship profiles and economical line textures for water and smoke.
