A three-volume anthology of English ballads with historical and humorous introductions, first issued in London in the 1720s and attributed to Ambrose Philips, reprinted by Trübner in 1871 for antiquarian readers and collectors. The copper plates are small upright scenes keyed to page numbers: gallows, archery, ranked pikemen, fights under a castle gateway, drawn in fine outline with dense cross-hatched trees and open skies.
