A Collection of Old Ballads. Corrected from the best and most ancient copies extant. With introductions, historical, critical, or humorous. Illustrated with copper plates. [Collected by Ambrose Philips?
A three-volume anthology of English ballads, edited with historical and humorous introductions and attributed to Ambrose Philips, first issued in London in the 1720s and reprinted by Trübner in 1871 for antiquarian readers. The copper plates are small upright scenes in thin outline etching: courtships at doorways, a bishop at an altar, a battlemented gate tower, harbours glimpsed through arches, hooped skirts and frock coats.
