The Doomed City; or, the Last days of Durocina. A tale of the Anglo-Saxon conquest of Britain, and the mission of Augustine
A historical novel of the Anglo-Saxon conquest and Augustine's mission, written by the English clergyman Augustine David Crake and published in 1885 for young Victorian readers. The plates are symmetrical pen-and-ink chapter ornaments: ivy and bindweed tendrils, star-shaped flowers, long-necked birds, ribbons and small grotesque masks, useful as rules, dividers, tailpieces and centred headers.
