Across the Channel; or, Picture-stories of foreign lands. [With illustrations
A children's travel reader of 1888 from the Sunday School Union in London, written by the science writer James Crowther, gathering short picture-stories about places across the Channel for Sunday-school readers. The 78 plates are small wood engravings printed light and grey, each captioned in small caps below a ruled frame: Dover Castle on its cliff, the roofs of Rouen seen from above, a country house with figures on the lawn, tree-framed park walks in Brussels; useful for tonal landscape vignettes, caption-plus-rule layouts, and stock architectural silhouettes.
