Poetry of the year. Passages from the poets descriptive of the seasons. With twenty-two coloured illustrations from drawings by eminent artists.[Edited by Joseph Cundall
A Victorian gift anthology of seasonal verse, compiled by the London publisher Joseph Cundall in 1853, pairing passages from English poets with twenty-two colour plates after drawings by named artists for a middle-class drawing-room readership. The plates are chromolithographed landscapes with small figure groups — children in a meadow, gleaners at sunset, boys fishing by a brook, a party under summer trees — useful for soft graded skies, layered greens, and tipped-in plates set in wide letterpress margins beside lines of verse.
