A guidebook to the chapels of the Sacro Monte di Varallo in Piedmont, written by Michele Cusa and published in 1857 for pilgrims and visitors, with a first part cataloguing the site's life-size terracotta sculpture groups. The plates are pure outline engravings, without shading, showing crowded figure scenes under domes and among trees: processions, crucifixion crowds, seated councils, horses and soldiers, coffered vaults and patterned floors drawn in strict perspective.
