Beware! A voice from shadowland
A slim 1887 volume of verse by Douglas Dalton, issued in London by the jobbing printers Diprose & Bateman for the general reading public. The plates are printer's ornaments rather than narrative scenes: grey-green cartouches holding a seated figure among leaves, bracket scrolls with a grinning mask below, and a symmetrical headpiece of two eagle heads flanking a small face, all built from fine stipple and hatching and usable as spot devices, dividers and headers.
