Richard Harding Davis's 1894 account of English life and manners for American readers, published in New York by Harper & Brothers with full-page plates. The pictures are loose pen-and-wash crowd scenes of race meetings, grandstands and lawn promenades, full of top hats, parasols, coaching parties and jostling spectators, useful for period costume silhouettes and massed figure groups printed sideways with small italic captions.
