A two-volume British travel and social commentary on the United States by Samuel Phillips Day, published in London by Newman & Co. in 1880 for general readers at home. The plates here are not scenes but engraved chapter headpieces: symmetrical scrollwork tailpieces with acanthus, rosettes, urns, grape clusters and a small grotesque mask, usable as rules, dividers and crest-like ornaments.
