Works of Charles Dickens. New illustrated library edition. [With a preface to each work by Edwin P. Whipple
A multi-volume illustrated library edition of Charles Dickens's novels, with prefaces by the American critic Edwin P. Whipple, issued for late nineteenth-century household readers. The plates are etched and engraved narrative scenes in fine grey line: crowded parlours and shops, figures in frock coats, bonnets and crinolines, framed pictures, mantelpieces and window light, useful for period costume, interiors and grouped figure staging.
