The Letters of Charles Dickens. Edited by his sister-in-law and his eldest daughter

HOGARTH, Georgina., Dickens, Charles · 1893 · Macmillan & Co. · 41 pictures

Collected correspondence of Charles Dickens, edited by Georgina Hogarth and Mamie Dickens and issued by Macmillan in London in 1893 for Victorian readers of the novels. The plates are reproduced Phiz-style etchings of captioned domestic and interior scenes — crowded parlours, lodging rooms, tavern tables — with figures in 1840s dress, cross-hatched shadow and small framed pictures on patterned walls, useful for period interiors, grouped figures and engraved caption lettering.
