Dickens's five Christmas Books collected in an 1869 Chapman & Hall edition for British family readers, with wood-engraved plates and vignettes by Landseer, Maclise, Stanfield, Frank Stone, Richard Doyle, John Leech, and Tenniel. The pictures run from cottage doorways hung with vine and thatch to bare firelit rooms, ballroom crowds in crinolines, and a veiled spirit confronting two ragged children in a wintry street; useful for holly-and-ivy borders, irregular vignette frames that bleed into type, and silhouetted figure groups.
