Christmas Books. [With plates
An 1892 London reprint of Dickens's Christmas Books from Richard Edward King, carrying the steel-etched and wood-engraved plates first made for the 1840s Chapman and Hall editions by John Leech, Daniel Maclise and others, sold to a general reading public. The 63 plates combine dark interior scenes lit by fire or candle with airy allegorical title-borders of floating figures, garlands and lettering, and frontispieces that stack two vignettes in one frame.
