The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit. [With plates
An 1893 London reprint from Lewis's of Dickens's 1843-44 novel, carrying the etched plates Hablot K. Browne ("Phiz") made for the original serial issue, for general Victorian readers. The forty captioned plates show crowded interiors and rough frontier shacks packed with gesturing figures in 1840s dress, drawn in fine etched line with deep hatched shadow and handwritten caption lines beneath.
