A late reprint of Dickens's 1839 novel, issued in London by Richard Edward King in 1892 for a popular readership, carrying the original etched plates by Hablot Knight Browne ('Phiz'). The 39 illustrations are arched or cloud-edged vignettes of crowded interiors — parlours, taverns, schoolrooms, doorways — built from fine etched hatching that leaves the paper white at the centre and darkens toward the edges, useful for period costume, furniture silhouettes and soft-bordered frame shapes.
