A late Victorian novel by Walmer Downe, printed in 1896 by J. M'Kelvie & Sons for general circulating-library readers. The plates are repeated wood-engraved band ornaments: a moonlit cottage and hill landscape edged with reeds and perching birds, and a classical figure group set in a rectangular panel flanked by symmetrical palmette and acanthus scrollwork, usable as headpieces, rules and section dividers.
