The Tragedy of the Korosko, etc. [A tale
An adventure novel by Arthur Conan Doyle, published in London by Smith, Elder & Co. in 1898 for the general fiction-reading public, about European tourists on the Nile captured by Dervish raiders. Sidney Paget's forty wash drawings, reproduced as grey halftones with quoted-dialogue captions, show camel columns, desert horizons, palm groves and confrontations between pith-helmeted travellers and robed captors; useful for tonal figure groups, riding silhouettes and period costume.
