Poems on several occasions [with an account of the author by J. Spence
Poems on Several Occasions by Stephen Duck, the Wiltshire thresher turned poet, printed in London in 1736 with a biographical account by Joseph Spence for a subscription readership. The plates are printer's ornaments — symmetrical headpieces and tailpieces built from scrollwork, in which winged putti hold an inscribed tablet, eagles flank baskets of fruit and flowers, and small grotesque masks anchor the lower points; useful as vignettes, dividers and frame elements.
