A survey of German dialects, customs, festivals and regional dress by Eduard Duller, published in 1847 with 50 hand-coloured lithographs for a German reading public. Each plate poses two or three villagers full-length against a plain ground or sketched landscape, captioned by district, with careful record of hats, aprons, stockings, embroidered bodices and coat cuts in flat bright colour.
