The Parent's Assistant ... Illustrated by Chris. Hammond. With an introduction by Anne Thackeray Ritchie
Maria Edgeworth's collection of moral tales for children, first published in the 1790s and reissued by Macmillan in 1897 with an introduction by Anne Thackeray Ritchie and forty pen-and-ink illustrations by Chris Hammond. The drawings stage small confrontations in plain rooms and streets, figures in late-Georgian coats, breeches and bonnets set against blank walls and sparse furniture, each plate carried by a line of quoted dialogue beneath; useful for costume reference, gestural figure groups and captioned line work.
