Twelve captioned wood-engraved plates show cottage interiors, lamplit tables, hedgerow lanes and boys in patched trousers, drawn with dense cross-hatching and heavy blacks; useful for period costume, rustic furniture and figures caught mid-gesture, each carrying a quoted line of dialogue and page number.
