Benjamin Leopold Farjeon's collected Christmas Stories, three sentimental tales of London poverty and domestic reconciliation, issued in London in 1874 for family holiday reading. The 42 wood-engraved vignettes sit inside the printed page and show small groups of figures in cramped tenement kitchens, parlours and suburban lanes, with crinolines, shawls, top hats and one lettered ribbon banner reading "True love never dies" \u2014 useful for period costume, interior props and ready-made scroll lettering.
