A Spanish-language travel encyclopedia compiled by Nemesio Fernández Cuesta in 1859, gathering nineteenth-century explorers' accounts of discoveries and expeditions for general readers, and issued with maps, plates and wood engravings. The plates are tinted landscape views with arch-topped frames and Spanish captions: harbours and mountain ranges seen past overhanging branches, palms and agaves in the foreground, thatched huts and small boats — usable as framing devices, foliage silhouettes and distant-horizon backdrops.
