A French popular ethnography by Louis Figuier, published in Paris in 1872 and aimed at general readers, surveying the peoples of the world across 334 wood engravings and eight chromolithographs. The numbered figures are captioned studies of dress and physiognomy erhaps seated portraits, standing pairs, and long lines of grouped figures edrawn in fine grey line with heavy attention to beadwork, feather headdresses, turbans, and patterned robes, and useful as costume and ornament reference or as isolated silhouetted figures.
